This will be used periodically to put up things of interest/importance for RAM.
The watchwords for our models are competence, conduct and reliability. We are the premier register for life models in the UK. All our models are auditioned or referenced. We also do ID checks on artists to ensure models' safety.
These measures together help us provide the best service possible , both to models and artists.RAM Directorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10438829591385353072noreply@blogger.comBlogger108125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5343856029110009881.post-40040495138009845612020-07-09T05:49:00.001-07:002020-07-09T05:49:57.701-07:00Life Modeling During Covid Crisis - UpdateDear models and artists<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First of all a HUGE thank you to those who have continued to support us during these difficult times. You have no idea how appreciated it is and how much it means to us. Thank you so much!</div>
<div>
Also, thank you to all those who have taken the time to write in and tell me what you are going through, how you are being affected and what you are doing about it.</div>
<div>
After a very hard initial few months, there seems to be a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. Schools and educational institutes are certainly readying themselves and putting measures in place to start again in September.</div>
<div>
Also, a lot of artists and photographers are taking the opportunity, during summer, to run outdoor sessions. Make the most of it - and anyone who isn't - please at least consider it. Life models don't have to be nude, they just have to be present!</div>
<div>
Now that restrictions have eased a little, some small indoor classes are taking place, with suitable safety precautions in place, of course.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We are constantly looking for opportunities for our models and artists to get work and support. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
ARTISTS, it would be great if, as well as contacting individual models, you could put ads on the website. It's free and we need models to see what work there is out there. It is also a great way to find new models! You don't have to be a RAM member to put an ad up - although your credentials will, of course, be checked. The safety of all our members is paramount to us.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
MODELS, a lot of work is taking place over Zoom, Skype and other online mediums. I suggest, if you are interested (i realise this isn't for everyone!), please write to me and I'll add this to your profile. Artists now search the site with Zoom,Skype, etc as key words, so models with them in their profiles are getting the work.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Be kind, stay safe.</div>
<div>

I know many models are struggling and wondering what will happen to life modelling jobs.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2228; font-family: "bookman old style", "new york", times, serif; font-size: 16px;">
First of all, if any of you are having issues with tutors or artists about not being paid for work you have been booked for, please let me know. I'll do what i can to help. Artists are in the same boat, don't forget. The arts </div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2228; font-family: "bookman old style", "new york", times, serif; font-size: 16px;">
industry is being decimated by this awful virus.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2228; font-family: "bookman old style", "new york", times, serif; font-size: 16px;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2228; font-family: "bookman old style", "new york", times, serif; font-size: 16px;">
One piece of long awaited good news is that the self employed will now receive 80% of their earning averaged over the last 3 years. There are basic details here <span class="yiv6092195076ydp608524b5yiv0503003219ydp52c4245bpasted-link"><a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-a-grant-through-the-coronavirus-covid-19-self-employment-income-support-scheme?fbclid=IwAR0sq-i3tQ9Cs57ESpnOjp3T6ea4r2nDoC5h_zkdqC09sgt1JkbFiCMN4hg#how-to-apply" rel="nofollow" style="color: #196ad4;" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-a-grant-through-the-coronavirus-covid-19-self-employment-income-support-scheme?fbclid=IwAR0sq-i3tQ9Cs57ESpnOjp3T6ea4r2nDoC5h_zkdqC09sgt1JkbFiCMN4hg#how-to-apply</a> </span> and you should all also be emailed by HMRC. Basically, it's saying we can't apply yet and they will let us know when we can.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2228; font-family: "bookman old style", "new york", times, serif; font-size: 16px;">
Can you please let me know if this will help you and what you are doing meanwhile. I know many of you have other jobs, but I'm imagining they may have been affected too. I'm trying to build up a picture of what is happening with life models, so I'll be really grateful if you can reply.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2228; font-family: "bookman old style", "new york", times, serif; font-size: 16px;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2228; font-family: "bookman old style", "new york", times, serif; font-size: 16px;">
Another thing that is happening is that more and more artists are using online apps like Zoom and Skype to do classes and one on one work. Which is great! Please can you let me know if you are modelling for anyone doing this, how you are finding it and who the artists are. I'm also writing to all our artists to encourage them to work this way. And maybe you can contact artists you've worked with to see if they are working this way.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2228; font-family: "bookman old style", "new york", times, serif; font-size: 16px;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2228; font-family: "bookman old style", "new york", times, serif; font-size: 16px;">
If you'd like to send me your stories of what you are doing to cope and how this is all affecting you, I might start a blog of them. No names mentioned, of course. I'd love to hear how you are doing!</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2228; font-family: "bookman old style", "new york", times, serif; font-size: 16px;">
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Lastly, i know this is horrendously difficult, but we WILL get through this. There will always be art!</div>
</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #1d2228; font-family: "bookman old style", "new york", times, serif; font-size: 16px;">

I found out today that a very dear friend of mine passed away
on Monday. I knew he was very ill and I knew he was dying. It is still always a
shock though.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I met Vic when I’d been modelling for a few years. Someone
suggested i join RAM (The Register of Artists’ Models)
which I’d never heard of. Vic, at the time, was running it. He started it 20
years ago in 1997. I joined, met Vic and immediately had an affinity with him.
Vic was a very special man. He was intelligent, so knowledgeable, very funny and
kind – always kind.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He started RAM to better the lot of the life model. Thanks
to his hard work, models today are much better paid and much better treated. So
many models owe Vic so much. Including
me.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I started helping Vic run RAM in little ways after a few
years. And gradually took over some of his duties, as he headed for retirement.
When he retired i was handed RAM to safeguard and keep going. Which was an honour
and a privilege.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I found out i was a businesswoman (who knew!) and expanded
RAM in all sorts of ways. Without Vic’s constant guidance and help I could
never have done this. I literally wouldn’t be where i am today in so many ways
if it wasn’t for him. I owe him a great deal. As my daughter (always the drama
queen!) said “Mum, we owe him everything!”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Farewell, Vic. I’ll always love you and miss you. You’re so
special.</div>

What RAM means to me, by Dominic Blake:</div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;">
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;" /></div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
I have been life and portrait modelling for just over a year, and am now a full time life model, having left a conventional job to pursue my dreams of immersing myself more intimately within the artistic community. I would like to take a brief moment to write about what being a member of <a href="http://www.modelreg.co.uk/">RAM</a> means to me.</div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;" /></div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
My first port-of-call on deciding I wanted to be a Life Model was the excellent <a href="http://www.modelreg.co.uk/">Register of Artists Models' </a>website, which provides a wealth of information and advice both for people who are new to Life Modeling and also for experienced Life Models. I devoured all of their articles and blog posts, and took the decision that once I was in a position to approach my career in a serious way, I would register for membership. </div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;" /></div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
Soon after becoming a provisional member, I auditioned in London within a formal RAM Life Drawing class led by a very friendly and knowledgeable tutor, working with a female Life Model to recreate poses from a series of Lucien Freud paintings. It was one of the happiest experiences of my life (at that point). Although the class was very serious about their work, and it was the first time that I had worked with another life model (so I was pretty nervous), the atmosphere was overwhelmingly welcoming and positive. It felt like we were all working together, to support each other, artists, models and tutor alike. Within a few minutes, I felt so happy, and knew I had made the right decision both in pursuing my career. Fortunately, the tutor was very pleased with both my work, and the other model's work, and we passed our audition(s). From that day on, I haven't looked back!</div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;" /></div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
When starting out as a life model, you inevitably do not have lots of experience to draw on, to present to potential employers. However, being a RAM model demonstrates to employers that you are serious about your work, and that you have experience of posing within a formal life drawing class. Most employers out there really value life models who are RAM registered, and often expect you to be, or ask if you are (I proudly state that I am within my Facebook profile and on my website, now). I have secured several very good jobs via the RAM website, and through those jobs, others have emerged, too. However of the many that I have located independently, I think almost all employers, from art colleges to the organisers of life drawing groups, respect RAM registered models very much.</div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;" /></div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
As a relatively new life model, I know that being a RAM member has helped me to secure work, however, I am friends with many very experienced life models who have been working for many years, and they all appreciate the respect that RAM membership affords them. </div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;" /></div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
But, the RAM site is about so much more than simply securing work. Life modelling has become a way of life for me, and has changed my life in the most profound ways possible. I have overcome very negative feelings about how I look that I harboured for years, and found a place within which I can express myself freely without being judged. Because Rachel, who runs RAM, is also a life model with very many years experience, she understands all of the possible issues life models could encounter, from practical issues to do with the experience of posing in a class, to emotional issues that models might face. Importantly, RAM has also been at the forefront of attempting to secure better conditions for models. Many employers are very sympathetic with RAM's cause, and have altered their working practices as a result of proposals RAM has made. In short, RAM *cares* about life models, and wants life models to succeed and to be the best that they can be, while simultaneously battles to protect the conditions of life models. </div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;" /></div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
For all the reasons above, I am so happy to be a member of RAM, and look forward to being a member long-term. </div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px;" /></div>
<div id="yiv9711850102AppleMailSignature" style="-webkit-padding-start: 0px; background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
Thank you RAM!!</div>

<br />
<span style="background-color: #f6f7f8; color: #373e4d; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11.9999990463257px; line-height: 17.0666675567627px; white-space: pre-wrap;">When a friend suggested I join the Register of Artist Models I was more than a little apprehensive. Not long before, as a cash-strapped student, I had been given the butt-naked runaround by a somewhat unscrupulous artist. I won’t go into great detail but it involved oil and gasmasks, and resulted in less than half the previously agreed fee.
However, with a useless humanities degree under my belt and a headful of unrealistic dreams, it seemed wise to set up a few safety nets. And getting paid for sitting around in the nude certainly beats sweating the night away behind a bar, so I got in contact with Rachel and she signed me up for a trial run straight away.
After my previous misadventure, joining RAM was like coming in from the wild. The introductory session at a life drawing class in North London was incredibly helpful. The gentleman running it was an experienced professional life model who was more than happy to show me the ropes, teaching me a few classic poses and explaining what to expect in the future, in terms of pay and experience. “You’ll never get rich from it,” he said, “but you can earn a comfortable living.”
Despite the reassuring introduction, I was still extremely nervous before my first proper job. “Relax,” said a more experienced friend, “you just have to remember that you are the one with the power.” She was right – there is something empowering about walking into a room full of strangers and stripping down to your skin. There is so much shame associated with the body but life modeling makes you realize that you have nothing to hide. Every job I’ve done since has made me feel stronger and more confident. All power to RAM!</span>RAM Directorhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10438829591385353072noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5343856029110009881.post-22310389133999394612015-03-13T08:08:00.000-07:002015-03-13T12:33:50.845-07:00We Get Pollock Naked for Hens<a href="http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/">The Scottish Sun</a> has published an article about our life drawing hen parties. paper magazine, BARE ART. It turned into two articles as I first
wrote about how this had come about and was then invited to relay the
resultant session. I supplied a photograph too, which was published.</div>
<div align="justify" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
</div>
<div align="justify" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
As a result of this
article I had a couple more sessions in this guise, I thought maybe I
had found a niche market, but it was short lived.
</div>
<div align="justify" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
</div>
<div align="justify" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Now, so many years
later, I find life almost imitating art as I attend life modelling
sessions wearing a skirt and likewise any private viewings where my
art is being exhibited (such as this years Leicester Open 26). The
reason is confused. After I suffered a clot in my right calf a few
years ago my doctor warned me that I would now have water retention.
This has proved to be the case, but rather than simply give in to it
I researched and discovered its all about speed of circulation and as
both my jobs of driving a taxi and life modelling consist of me
spending large amounts of time not moving much I needed to do
something about forcing the blood to flow quickly and not deposit any
water in my ankles and further up my leg. Support tights was one
answer, but being unwilling to go that far so quickly my wife
suggested lycra leggings, which do offer a light support (it says so
on some packets) and my son came home with a cycle. This combination
has succeeded in slowing down the retention, but of course wont beat
it completely.
</div>
<div align="justify" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
</div>
<div align="justify" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
However, I started off
wearing the leggings beneath trousers but as you guessed that's just
too warm, and trousers don't feel right rubbing along the fabric. So
I took to wearing shorts in the taxi. Amazingly, hardly anyone
comments on the shorts, not even through this winter, and only TWO
people have mentioned , what my wife calls tights, leggings.
</div>
<div align="justify" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
</div>
<div align="justify" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
Walking around in
shorts reminded me of how uncomfortable they actually are and how
ugly they can look. Then I remembered the skirt I purchased to make a
Supergirl outfit as challenged by my accountant ( I did it and I paid
only half my fee this year and she paid that and the other half to
the charity MIND). It had felt good. I remembered I had felt good in
a dress modelling at LUSAD. So, I plucked up courage and went into my
next modelling session in this red skater skirt, and NOBODY LOOKED OR
SAID ANYTHING !!! I even walked into the city during a three hour
break I had between sessions and again NOTHING !!! Not what I had
expected, but it set me on this path of being known as the skirted
artist, and now I have a kilt . I don't dress to look feminine, in
fact I think I look more manly in my leggings and hiker socks and
walking boots. Hence the kilt. A mans garment. Confusing, as
mentioned earlier? Yes, because I like how it feels......freedom,
airy, lightness, and now I hate trousers.</div>
<div align="justify" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
</div>
<div align="justify" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
What has this to do
with RAM? Well, its about being Artists Models, not Nude
Models.....Yes, of course I'm mostly nude, but look where being
dressed lead me! You never know if art is imitating life or vice
versa. Accept and embrace every opportunity because you just don't
know where it will take you.</div>
